Let’s be real: does anyone like wearing maternity clothing? And that’s because we’ve all had the grim dressing room experience of staring down a drab, shapeless pair of maternity pants and wondering, “Is this really it??”
After not being able to find a single pair of maternity activewear leggings during her pregnancy, co-founder Loren resorted to the classic desperation move of pregnant women everywhere: she bought a pair of regular workout pants two sizes bigger than normal and hoped for the best. Of course, they didn’t really fit and certainly didn’t look good. After lots more tears in lots more fitting rooms, she shared her struggle with her best friend Hillary, and together they set out to create Berkley – a clothing line designed to make women feel beautiful, confident and most importantly, themselves, before, during, and after pregnancy.
Dallas-based Loren and Hillary share many passions, including hiking in the mountains of Colorado (home state shout out!), sweating out frustrations, small fluffy dogs, a really good glass of wine, and luxury everything. They met working at Neiman Marcus, the place they credit with not only bringing them together as friends, but also with shaping their knowledge and expertise of high-quality, flattering clothing.
Berkley is a female-owned and run business, and everything we do is centered around empowering women. To keep us grounded in that mission, we’ve named our brand and all of our products after important women in our lives.
“Our obsession for quality has led us on the never ending pursuit to find the perfect buttery-soft fabric. Because we believe the ultimate expression of luxury is feeling comfortable—in your clothing, and in your own skin.” xo, L&H
